چکیده

Evaluation of vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs) over real environments is still a remaining issue for most researchers. There are some works which carry out performance tests to evaluate the communication channel according to physical and MAC conditions. Only a few works deal with multi-hop experimentation in this field, and practically none tests multihop protocols. In this paper an integral VANET testbed is evaluated, using 802.11b and a multi-hop network managed by the Optimized Link State Routing protocol (OLSR). Up to four vehicles are used to study the VANET performance over different traffic environments and different metrics are considered to analyse the results in terms of delay, bandwidth, packet loss and distance between nodes. Furthermore, a deeper analysis is carried out to track the routes followed by packets end to end. Since a routing protocol is used, results differ from traditional one-hop and static-route tests, presenting a more realistic study.

Experimental Characterization of Communications in Vehicular Ad Hoc Network Experimental Characterization of Communications in Vehicular Ad Hoc Network

Majority of characterization studies on Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET) are based on simulations that assume little network errors and consistent signal strength. Existing VANET experiments, on the other hand, focus mostly on single-hop communication and they are conducted with external antennas or other built-in equipments in small areas. This thesis surveys the challenges in VANET and conduc...

A survey of research literature on Vehicular Networking

This document is a brief survey of research literature on vehicular networking. Broadly speaking, research publications on vehicular networking can be grouped into two categories: (i) WAVE (IEEE 802.11p and IEEE 1609.1-1609.4) papers, and (ii) VANET papers. Papers on WAVE mostly assume single-hop V2V, V2I and I2V communications, while the VANET papers focus on multi-hop V2V networks. The sectio...

Broadcast Routing in Wireless Ad-Hoc Networks: A Particle Swarm optimization Approach

While routing in multi-hop packet radio networks (static Ad-hoc wireless networks), it is crucial to minimize power consumption since nodes are powered by batteries of limited capacity and it is expensive to recharge the device. This paper studies the problem of broadcast routing in radio networks. Given a network with an identified source node, any broadcast routing is considered as a directed...

A Survey on Routing Protocols and its Issues in VANET

Vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs) offer a vast number of applications without any support from fixed infrastructure. These applications forward messages in a multi-hop fashion. Designing an efficient routing protocol for all VANET applications is very hard. Hence a survey on routing protocols based on various parameters of VANET is a necessary issue in vehicle-tovehicle (V2V) and infrastructur...

ACAR: Adaptive Connectivity Aware Routing for Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks in City Scenarios

Multi-hop vehicle-to-vehicle communication is useful for supporting many vehicular applications that provide drivers with safety and convenience. Developing multi-hop communication in vehicular ad hoc networks (VANET) is a challenging problem due to the rapidly changing topology and frequent network disconnections, which cause failure or inefficiency in traditional ad hoc routing protocols. We ...
